The product is an immunological test for the qualitative detection of group A streptococcal antigen in human throat swab specimens. The test is an aid in the diagnosis of group A streptococcal infection.

Streptococcus pyogenes is a non-motile gram-positive coccus that colonises in chains or pairs and is a typical bacteria of the mucosal microbiome. They can cause serious infections such as pharyngitis, respiratory tract infections, meningitis, scarlet fever and arthritis. If left untreated, these infections can lead to serious complications, including rheumatic fever and peritonsillar abscesses.
S. pyrogenes can cause various clinical pictures, such as local purulent infections of the throat or skin, generalised or toxin-mediated clinical pictures and immunologically induced secondary diseases. Throat infections are characterised by a sore throat, fever, chills, malaise and, in children, abdominal discomfort and vomiting.
Early diagnosis and treatment of group A streptococcal pharyngitis has been shown to alleviate symptoms and reduce later complications.
The test is intended for use by medically trained personnel only.
The test cannot be used for diagnosis alone and should be evaluated in the context of the patient's medical history and a confirmatory laboratory test.
